Exploring Kent on Two Wheels

(No, not a wheelbarrow. On the bike.)

The UK is home to millions of kilometres of glorious tarmac and dirt roads, which makes it an absolute haven for bike-riding - hence the huge cycling community here. One of the areas that I love to cycling is Kent. Largely because it’s the easiest greenbelt to reach from where we are in our concrete jungle of London, but also due to the incredibly scenic routes, with the icon green fields stretching as far as the eye can see, and also the nature of the diverse routes, means it is suitable for every cyclists’ ability, whether a beginner or a pro.

This makes it the perfect training ground for cyclists who want to improve their performance on the bike, by increasing frequencies of climbs, varying gradients of steepness and different ground surfaces. There really is something for everyone. Kent is also full of a huge host of foot trails (See here for National Trust Routes https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lists/top-walks-in-kent) which means it’s a great place to bring the children also!

Spring is creeping its way in now, the hours of sunlight longer and the energetic sun rays warming up your skin. Not to forget the wind and the chill are still present, however. We ventured out for our first ride after the winter months and headed over to Edenbridge. Our starting line was Merle Common. We passed through Crowhurst, Lingfield, Four Elms and Crockham Hill and then completed the loop back to Merle Common.

This ride is available to be watched here, where it provides a detailed overview of our route:

32. 1KM

Elevation 149m

Conditions: Windy

Ability Level: Beginner

We were faced with opposing winds, but the sunshine ultimately made up for it!

I will continue to share my cycling routes, to provide some inspiration if you plan to visit Kent. I will also give a rating on the intensity of the routes, along with how much elevation there is and distance in order for you to decide if these routes suit the abilities of you and your family or friends.
